The 2012 OKC Gridiron Show
Feb 22, 24 & 25th at the Lyric Theatre at the Plaza
Since 1928, the Oklahoma City Gridiron Club has performed an annual political satire show for Oklahoma City audiences. Originally, only Oklahoma’s political insiders attended the show, but today the show is an annual attraction for politicos and the general public alike. What makes the OKC Gridiron Show so unique, is its original script, which is written by Club members. In addition, popular songs, show tunes, old standards and even Christmas carols are selected for the show and their lyrics re-written to match the subject matter.
When it all comes together, the OKC Gridiron Show represents the most unique live stage performance in Oklahoma City.
Throughout the years, the OKC Gridiron Show called many local facilities home. The Civic Center’s Hall of Mirrors, the Skirvin Hotel, the Biltmore Hotel, the Myriad Convention Center, and the Lincoln Plaza have all served as an annual home. Downtown OKC’s Stage Center played host to the show until 2009.
Today, the OKC Gridiron Show is proud to call the Lyric Theatre at the Plaza home. Nestled within the Plaza District on NW 16th street, the Lyric Theatre at the Plaza blends the intimacy of an off-Broadway setting with the technology and acoustics of a state-of-the-art performing arts center.
The OKC Gridiron Show serves as the main fundraising activity for the OKC Gridiron Club. Show proceeds benefit OKC Gridiron Foundation Scholarships, which are awarded annually to deserving journalism students attending colleges and universities across Oklahoma.
